If there’s one thing that Singapore has an abundance of, it’s hotels. There is so much choice! But upon my revisit to Singapore, we decided to stay at Australian hotel chain and Far East Hospitality’s, Vibe Hotel Singapore Orchard.
The hotel itself is new, only opening a year ago last November, Vibe Hotel Singapore Orchard Road is clean and presentable with its contemporary design and has friendly staff who are more than willing to assist. It’s also really affordable, especially for those, like us, who want to stay somewhere nice but not too fancy, as during the day you’re out and about sightseeing and what not. However, when you want to stay in the hotel room, you want it to have a decent amount of space and still be comfortable but not too insane pricewise to break your wallet.
The room we stayed in was the Premier Room King Bed option, 25 square metres and full of the typical necessities including a work desk, 55-inch Smart TV, tea/coffee makers in all rooms, air-conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, and the entire hotel is a non-smoking property. The room that we booked had a walk-in shower which was lovely, and the bed was super comfy. Facility wise, the hotel amenities included at 24-hour front desk, 24-hour gym, swimming pool on the ground floor that closes at 10pm, its own restaurant and bar with Australian cuisine, buffet breakfast, and free parking for the duration of your stay. We never used to room service, so we’re not able to comment on that.
Vibe Hotel Singapore Orchard is in a great position, located just a 10-minute walk from Orchard Road, Singapore’s shopping district. Naturally, it is fine to walk down from the hotel to Orchard Road, but going back to the hotel is another story. It’s located on top of a hill and if you love walking, this is fine.
But Singapore is also very hot and humid. Often, we found ourselves getting a lift back to the hotel instead of walking up the hill. If you intend on getting car rides everywhere then this would be no issue. If you are getting public transport to and from your accommodation then climbing up that hill back to the hotel would be a bit taxing. Once you’re on Orchard Road though, you’ve got all the public transport to choose from. Everything is so accessible, convenient, and Singapore is not short of shopping malls either.
Lucky Plaza is the closest shopping centre that comes to mind, it’s probably also the most affordable, walking distance wise from the hotel. This is in comparison to all the luxury shopping malls that you’d be used to seeing on Orchard Road. We found solace in the food court, food when we didn’t feel like venturing far for a meal.
By getting the Premier Room King Bed option, we had the choice of guaranteed early check-in or late-check out. If you want to take advantage of the early check-in, you can check-in from 10am. We took advantage of the late-check out which was up until 4pm. Normal hotel check-in and check out times are 2pm and 12pm respectively. The room and hotel facilities for our tier also had the option of complimentary laundry service for 2 pieces of clothing for guests with a minimum of 2 nights stay. We didn’t utilise this, but it’s good to know that the option is there and is part of your inclusions, should you book the same option as us.
My only criticism would be the buffet breakfast. The hotel would switch up its breakfast options to provide variety and for those who aren’t creatures of habit, this is fine. But we personally didn’t enjoy how sometimes we’d be able to get orange juice and other days it wasn’t even an option. The same went for some certain food choices, sometimes they were available, sometimes it wasn’t. It was a strange luck of the draw kind of buffet breakfast that we weren’t fond of. But that would be my only criticism. The food itself was fine, no complaints. It’s just the availability of what we wanted was a little frustrating.
So, despite the giant hill that the hotel is located on and its random chance buffet breakfast style, Vibe Hotel Singapore Orchard is actually a great hotel to stay at in Singapore that will provide the comfort that you need, is affordable, is close to the popular Orchard Road, and is the ideal home away from home, especially for Australian travellers. We didn’t choose the hotel for its Aussie connections but the location and competitive price. But I suppose the Aussie roots was a bonus in the long run.
Vibe Hotel Singapore Orchard is located at 24 Mount Elizabeth, Singapore.
