Immersive Fan Event | Sat June 28 at The Tote Hotel in Melbourne

With a nod to acknowledge the world we find ourselves in, The Living End will officially launch their new single ‘Strange Place’ at an immersive fan event in Melbourne tomorrow, Saturday June 28, from 3-6pm upstairs at The Tote. Chris, Scott and Andy from the band will be present to sign and give away hand screened, limited-edition posters at the pop-up event.
‘Strange Place’ is out now and is the second single to be released from The Living End’s forthcoming new album, bringing an anthemic vibe reminiscent of their classic hit ‘Prisoner of Society’.
Singer/guitarist Chris Cheney said, “News flash! It’s getting crazy out there! I look around and I see a lot of people that just can’t make sense of where this world is heading.
It’s become a ‘Strange Place’; a giant asylum full of fragile, disconnected and disillusioned people that aren’t coping.
Mental health, the cost of living, social media, the threat of war, increasing youth related crime, online toxicity, a whole generation trying to learn in real time how to function and cope with a world spinning too fast and run by lunatics.”
A cornerstone of Australian rock for over two decades, The Living End continue to fuel their reputation for combining explosive punk rock performances with politically charged lyrics.
The ‘Strange Place’ single launch pop-up activation will see the upstairs room at iconic rock venue The Tote transformed into a bunker like space – kind of a prepper’s lab – hiding away from the ‘Strange Place’ we find ourselves in, while keeping a grasp on the outside world. It was created by acclaimed Melbourne based multi-media artist Callum Preston, who specialises in immersive installations. His recent work ‘Video Land’ is showing as part of “JOY”, currently on display at the Immigration Museum Melbourne.
Callum says of the installation, “The ever-changing landscape of how we consume music has created a perfect opportunity to do something different, so when the chance to collaborate with The Living End for a listening party of sorts I decided why not really build a little world all our own to experience “Strange Place” in a truly strange setting? What better place to nestle this experience than within the walls of the iconic Tote hotel, the site of many early TLE gigs and many late-night, beer soaked conversations solving the world’s problems.”
Ahead of the release of their previous single “Alfie”, the dynamic rockabilly-punk trio recently played some last minute, intimate pop-up shows in Melbourne and Sydney. Footage of fans lining up down the street were circulated widely, making them gigs to remember for the lucky few who got in!
Further details about The Living End’s ninth studio album to be announced soon.
