“Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” is an action fantasy horror film that is the retelling of fairytale, “Hansel & Gretel“. Jeremy Renner plays “Hansel” and Gemma Arterton plays “Gretel“. However in this storyline, the children grow up and become witch hunters due to childhood trauma and because it’s the only thing that they know how to do.
True to the original story, the witches are still very interested in collecting children, but there is more to the story now than just that. With a self-explanatory storyline, I guess you would think that this movie would be pretty lame, but you would be wrong. There are some minor speed bumps in the plot line, but the story still delivers.
“Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” is action packed, has great visuals {and that’s just the actors, haha!}, special effects, great costumes, and the killing of witches. What’s not to love?
I watched the film in 3D and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although I feel the film doesn’t need to be viewed in 3D, I would recommend seeing this nevertheless. There is a reason why it is one of the highest-grossing films of 2013 so far.
If you have always wanted that, “Once upon a time” story to have a little bit of “kick-ass” added to it, then this movie is everything you have hoped for and more.
