Eric Nam: There and Back Again – Album Review

Eric Nam is a veteran of the K-Pop industry, but this is the first time that he is touring and releasing music as an independent artist. While his tour kickstarted in the US last night (technically last night, time difference is a strange thing), it doesn’t hit Australian shores until July. Until then, we can find solace in Eric Nam’s latest album, ‘There and Back Again’.

With pre-album released tracks, ‘I Don’t Know You Anymore’ and ‘Any Other Way’ already serenading and satisfying fans, as well as recent single ‘Lost On Me’, ‘There and Back Again’ is Eric Nam’s second all-English album. His first English album from 2019, ‘Before We Begin’ would have been a hard act to follow with bops like ‘Congratulations’, but Nam successfully manages to dish out a flawless and impressive retrospective record, all while being effortlessly cool. His writing has improved and matured tenfold, the experimental creativity evident in the 7-track release, but especially with ‘Wildfire’, which is unlike anything we have heard from Eric Nam before.

Eric Nam’s music cannot be defined by one genre. Every track on ‘There and Back Again’ is great and different, exerting its own individual mood and sound. Our favourite song on the album, ‘Admit’ is a raw, emotional, and beautifully written love letter, with an honesty that can sometimes only be said in song.

‘There and Back Again’ is by far Eric Nam’s most sophisticated and sincere record yet, complete with smooth euphonious vocals, and we cannot wait to hear these new songs live. In the meantime, we’ll be listening to this album on repeat, again.

‘There and Back Again’ is available now on your favourite streaming services everywhere and is worth a listen, if you haven’t yet already. We cannot wait to finally see this indie K-Pop superstar in concert when he arrives in Australia this July. Eric Nam will be performing in Brisbane at The Tivoli on July 1, Melbourne at the iconic Forum Theatre on July 4, and at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on July 5. Tickets are on sale now.
