Wreck-It Ralph – Film Review

These days, in order to make a successful animation, there needs to be a mixture of elements to appeal to both adults and children. Wreck-It Ralph is among the select few animated films that achieves this.

We are first introduced to Ralph, the villain of his game, “Fix It Felix Jr.” whilst he is in deep discussion with his fellow “bad guys” expressing that he no longer desires to be the “bad guy“. And who can blame him? Ralph is never treated with respect by his peers, nor is he appreciated despite his job description. The solution? Game jump.

Now if you’re hoping for revisiting multiple old games and plenty of “game jumping“, then you’ll be disappointed. Instead, Wreck-It Ralph focuses on it’s storyline and character development – which is a good thing!

As a BIG Disney fan, I admit that I was looking forward to seeing this film all year. And I am happy to tell you that I was not disappointed at all.

Now usually I’m very sceptical regarding voice acting from screen actors, as many screen actors cannot express colour in their tone of voice and expression like an actual voice actor can. However with Wreck-It Ralph, I did not feel this way at all.

Although John C. Reilly is a famous and successful screen actor, he managed to give Ralph not only a personality or voice, but a soul. We as viewers can really identify with Ralph‘s struggles despite him being a video game character, because his troubles are human.

Behind all the fun video game nostalgia and excellent visuals, Wreck-It Ralph unravels to become a beautiful, original, engaging, endearing tale of friendship, struggle and learning to love and appreciate yourself for who you really are.

If you have ever felt down because of your occupation. This movie is perfect for you, because you are NOT your job.

highly recommend anyone of all ages to go see this film. It is one of the most original films that I have seen in years. A wonderful storyline with a beautiful message, Wreck-It Ralph is one of the best movies I have seen all year and will definitely remain one of my favourites.

I’ll leave you with a quote from the film that the zombie stated despite his accent, reigns truth:

Zangief saying labels not make you happy. Good, bad, nggghhhh… you must love you.
