Voyage of Time (IMAX) – Film Review

Voyage of Time is a documentary examining the origins of our universe, the beginning of life on Earth and evolution.

There are two versions of this film. One is a feature length film narrated by Cate Blanchett. The other, a 45-minute-long IMAX film narrated by Brad Pitt. I saw the latter.

When I first found out about this film and saw the trailer, I was really excited to see it. It seemed like an immersive film about the universe, galaxies and space. Unfortunately, I was severely disappointed. It wasn’t really about space. Actually, I felt like it wasn’t really about anything.

What I experienced was a visually captivating film with very little substance. Most of the narrative felt unnecessary and wasn’t at all informative. As soon as I was mesmerised with a scene, my moment would be interrupted by Brad Pitt’s pointless drivel which actually really annoyed me. At the same, there were many moments where his voice was putting me to sleep in the cinema.

Voyage of Time is a clear example of “what you see isn’t always what you get”. It is underwhelming, misleading and is a complete waste of time.
