Saving Mr. Banks

Saving Mr. Banks” is a Disney production based on truth about another Disney production being created, Mary Poppins. What we never knew until now was how difficult it was to create Mary Poppins and how the film was almost never made. In “Saving Mr. Banks” we see how difficult of a time Walt Disneyand his team had trying to convince P. L. Travers into letting them take Mary Poppins under their wing.

Tom Hanks‘ portrayal of Walt Disney was respectful, believable and justifying. In the film, it isn’t really about a business man trying to make a film happen, but more so about a man who wants to keep his promise to his daughters, and I really liked that. Paul GiamattiRuth WilsonAnnie Rose BuckleyColin Farrellwere also amazingly outstanding in their roles. But the true hero of this film was Emma Thompson who was simply captivating in her role as P. L. Travers, displaying a complicated, stubborn woman with a bitter-sweet back story and a hidden tender heart. Mary Poppins isn’t just a book to her, but a representation and honourable re-write of her childhood, giving her father the happy ending that he could have had and (in her heart) deserved.

This film was so beautiful, I was moved to tears. I felt like my heart broke into a million pieces and then was put back together again. Watching “Saving Mr. Banks” put me through a rollercoaster of emotions; happiness, pain, sorrow, awe, admiration, respect and love. I am so enraged that Emma Thompson has been overlooked for an Oscar, but don’t let that dishearten you from letting this beautiful film into your heart. I love “Saving Mr. Banks” with all of my heart.
