A Quiet Place – Film Review

A Quiet Place is a drama thriller horror film directed by John Krasinski who also stars in this film alongside his real-life partner Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe and deaf actress, Millicent Simmonds. The film is set in the future where the world is under lockdown as the planet is overrun by aliens that hunt by sound.

John Kransinski plays Lee, the head of the Abbott family consisting of wife Evelyn, sons Marcus, Beau and deaf daughter Regan. The family are forced to live in solitude and silence in fear that if they make any noise, the extraterrestrial creatures will come for them and kill them.

I’m generally not particularly a fan of horror films, but I loved A Quiet Place. I loved the narrative and felt the concept was very original and clever. It’s nothing like anything I have ever seen before. The performances by all the actors are impressive to say the least. I never thought a film would be so detailed despite its very little dialogue.

Not only is A Quiet Place frightening, thrilling and intense, but it is also moving and has depth. At one point of the film, I was surprisingly moved to tears. I suppose being moved to cry would sound rather odd during a horror film, but A Quiet Place is the special exception.

I believe that A Quiet Place is the game changer for horror films. There are no cheap thrills here. A Quiet Place has an invigorating screenplay, excellent directing, wonderful acting and convincing special effects which all cleverly orchestrate into one scary masterpiece. This film will not only keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time, but it will tug at your heartstrings. I cannot recommend A Quiet Place enough and I really want to see it in cinemas again, which is huge for me because horror films aren’t usually my preferred genre, but this one in particular is BRILLIANT.
